Executive Biographies
Our senior executives at Republic Indemnity are all seasoned professionals with extensive experience in workers' compensation. Some have even made it a lifelong career.  They understand all facets of the business, and they work closely with producers and employers to provide outstanding service and innovative programs.
 
 
Bob Houston
Bob Houston has been Vice President of Western Division operations since joining Republic Indemnity in 1997.   His primary role is to provide direction to production offices outside of California, namely the branch offices in Denver, Las Vegas, Phoenix and Portland.   When agencies in the West seek a producer appointment with Republic Indemnity, they initially contact Bob to discuss terms of the relationship.  

 

Previously, Bob held management positions with both AIG and Industrial Indemnity in San Francisco.    For the last three years, Bob has served as an industry representative on the Alaska Workers Compensation Review and Advisory Committee (ARAC).

 
Dion Riley
Dion Riley has been Republic Indemnity's Chief Financial Officer and a member of its Board of Directors since joining the company in 1986.   He was promoted from Vice President to Senior Vice President in 1994 and became Treasurer in 1998.   Dion is responsible for Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, Human Resources, and Administration.  

Prior to joining Republic Indemnity, Dion held various positions of increasing responsibility with two other Great American Insurance Group affiliates, one in Dallas and the other in Los Angeles.   He has also served as a director on several non-affiliated insurance boards. Dion is a past chairman of the Southwestern Insurance Information Service and a current member of the Insurance Accounting Systems Association.

 
Dave Harkins
Dave Harkins has served as Senior Underwriting Officer of Republic Indemnity since 1995.   He joined Republic in June 1992 as Vice President, Home Office Underwriting, and was named Senior Vice President and appointed to the Board of Directors in January 1995.   His areas of responsibility include Underwriting, Premium Audit, Loss Control and Reinsurance purchasing.   For more than 20 years, Dave has served on boards and committees at the California Workers' Compensation Institute, the Workers' Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau, and the Association of California Insurance Companies.
 
Dwayne Marioni
Dwayne Marioni has served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Republic Indemnity Company of America since May 1996.   Dwayne joined the company in 1984 as the Vice President of the Northern California Division and has held a number of senior executive positions since then.   In his current post, Dwayne is responsible for Republic Indemnity's overall operation, in addition to managing the Northern California Division.   He has been a member of the Board of Directors since 1986. Dwayne is currently a member of Executive Committee of the WCIRB.
 
Steven Gallacher

Steve joined Republic Indemnity in 2008 as Senior Vice President, assuming responsibility for underwriting and marketing functions in Northern California.

 

He has over 25 years of commercial property/casualty and workers' compensation insurance experience in both the insurance carrier and insurance broker sectors.  Prior to Republic he served as Executive Vice President for AIG's Specialty Workers' Compensation division, managing that business segment in the Central and Western U.S.

 

He has been a member and past Chairman of the WCIRB Executive Committee and has served on the CWCI Board of Directors.  He has earned the Associate in Risk Management ARM professional designation.

 
Dave Mitchell
Dave Mitchell has served as Senior Vice President, Home Office Claims, for Republic Indemnity since July 1994.   After joining the company in 1976, he moved quickly through the ranks, including roles as an Examiner, Claims Supervisor and Assistant Claims Manager.   In 1985, Dave was promoted to Claims Manager/Assistant Vice President, followed by promotions to Vice President of the Southern California Division in 1986 and to Vice President of Southern California Claims in 1993.   He became a member of the Board of Directors in 1995.   Dave also coordinates governmental affairs for Republic Indemnity.

Dave participates in many industry groups, including the California Workers' Compensation Institute (CWCI), where he is on the executive committee and previously served as chairman of the board of directors and chair of the claims committee. He is also an active member of the PCI/ACIC, as well as the former chairman of the claims committee and the AIA claims committee. Currently, Dave is involved in special committee work for the Workers' Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau (WCIRB), the Department of Workers' Compensation and the Department of Insurance. In addition, he has participated in various ad hoc groups for the California legislature, the Governor's office, and the California Chamber of Commerce, and has worked with other employer groups as well.
